How to play
Type the text as fast and as accurately as you can. A ghost runs beside you: it replays your best run, exactly as you typed it.
- Before your first race, the ghost keeps a steady target pace.
- Beat it and your new run becomes the ghost.
- A wrong letter does not move you forward: correct it to keep racing.
What you race on
Each race is 20 words drawn from the 200 most common words of the language. Short, familiar words keep the race about rhythm, not reading. Your first ghost runs at 30 words per minute, a comfortable pace for a beginner.
Why race against yourself?
Racing other people shows who is fastest today. Racing your own best run shows whether you are improving. The ghost replays your run keystroke by keystroke, so you see exactly where you pull ahead or fall behind. Your best run is kept in your browser, for each language.
Tips
- Do not rush the start: a wrong letter stops you until you correct it, and that costs more than a calm first word.
- Keep a regular rhythm rather than bursts of speed.
