What stays in your browser
You can use all of Typocto without an account: it then never asks for your name or email address, and everything it remembers about you is stored only in your browser (local storage), on your device:
- your settings: language, keyboard layout, theme, sounds;
- your results and progress: tests, lessons, practice, games, records and achievements.
Without an account, this data is never sent to us. You can erase it at any time with Delete my data on the progress page, or by clearing your browser's data for this site. Unless you create a verified certificate (below), the name you type on a certificate is only used to draw it on your device and is not stored.
Optional account
If you create an account, we keep your email address, your password (only in a protected form we cannot read), the language you signed up in, and a copy of your settings and progress, so that you find them on your other devices. We use your email address only to send the password reset link you ask for. Clearing your browser no longer loses your progress, but Delete my data signs you out of this browser.
The page My account lets you download your data, change your password and delete your account: your email address and the copy are then erased at once. Nobody else sees your progress. If you choose a nickname, it appears publicly on the leaderboards with your best speed, accuracy and date. The keystrokes of a ranked test are used to check it and are not kept. If you are under 16, ask a parent before creating an account.
If you create a verified certificate, we keep the name you write on it, the result of that five-minute test (speed, accuracy, consistency, language and date) and its random number. Anyone who has its link can see its page, which search engines do not index. You can delete a certificate on the account page at any time, and deleting your account deletes all your certificates.
Shared results
When you share a result, the link contains only your speed, your accuracy and the test setting: nothing that identifies you. The preview image of that link is drawn from these three numbers.
Online races
In a race room or a class, the nickname you choose is seen by the other players and kept only in the server's memory while the room is open. After a public race, the leaderboard keeps for 30 days the random name given to you for that race, your speed, accuracy and place, and a fingerprint of a random code made by your browser, so that only your best race is listed. None of this identifies you; Delete my data erases that code from your browser.
Server logs
Like any website, our servers keep technical logs (IP address, page requested, date) for security and to fix errors. They are kept for a limited time and never used to identify you.
Cookies and advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and out of some third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.
Ads are personalised, and cookies are set, only with your consent, which you can give or withdraw at any time from the cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Audience measurement
We may use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. Its cookies are set only with your consent. Without it, Google may still receive signals without cookies, used only to estimate the number of visits.
Fonts
The fonts are served by Typocto itself: showing a page does not contact Google Fonts or any other font service.
Your rights
Apart from the technical logs above and your account if you created one, we hold no personal data about you. You can access, correct or erase your account data at any time, on the account page or by writing to us. For data processed by Google, see Google's privacy policy. For any question, write to contact@typocto.com.
