How it works
Read the guides01
Place your fingers
Rest your index fingers on F and J: you can feel a small bump. Each finger looks after its own column of keys.
02
Learn a few keys at a time
Short lessons add two keys at a time, with a keyboard on screen that shows which finger to use.
03
Practise a little every day
Ten minutes a day beats an hour a week. Adaptive practice works on your weakest keys, and your progress page shows the gains.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Every lesson, test and game is free and needs no account. The site is paid for by advertising.
How long does it take to learn touch typing?
Most people know where every key is after two to four weeks of short daily sessions. Speed then keeps growing for months.
What is a good typing speed?
The average is around 40 words per minute. From 50 you type faster than most, 70 is fast and 90 or more is very fast. Accuracy matters as much as speed: aim for 95% or more.
Which keyboards are supported?
US QWERTY, Spanish (Latin America and Spain), Brazilian ABNT2, French AZERTY, German QWERTZ, Italian and Arabic (101 and 102 AZERTY). Accents and dead keys work just as on your own keyboard.
Where is my progress saved?
In your browser, on this device: clearing your browser data erases it. If you create an account (optional and free), a copy is kept on our server so you find it on all your devices.
Should I look at the keyboard?
No, and that is the whole point. Keep your eyes on the screen: the keyboard drawn on the page shows each key while your fingers learn.
