How it works

You start with the six most common letters of the language. Each session gives you words made only of the letters you have unlocked, with more of the letter you find hardest.

When every letter reaches your target speed with at least 95% accuracy, a new letter is unlocked. Raise the target whenever you feel ready.

Why it works

Practising what you already type well feels good but teaches little. Spending your time on the slowest and least accurate keys is the fastest way to improve. Your statistics stay in your browser.

Who is it for?

Practice suits beginners and fast typists alike: it starts with six letters and adapts to your level. If you have never learnt which finger goes on each key, start with the lessons: they show the finger for every key, and practice then turns it into speed.

Lessons

How long should I practise?

Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough to see progress within a few weeks. Short daily sessions work better than one long session a week, because your fingers learn between sessions. Stop when tiredness makes you miss keys: a tired session teaches bad habits.

Practice, lessons or test?

  • The lessons teach you the keyboard, one key at a time.
  • Practice turns what you have learnt into speed, letter by letter.
  • The typing test measures where you stand. Take it once a week to follow your progress.
