Why practise numbers?

Prices, dates, phone numbers, codes: numbers come up all the time, and the number row is the hardest to reach without looking. Keep your hands anchored on the home row and stretch each finger straight up to its number.

  • Left hand: 1 to 5. Right hand: 6 to 0.
  • Go back to the home row after each number.

What you will type

Numbers from one to four digits, and now and then a year between 1950 and 2029, separated by spaces, for one minute.

Reading your result

Your score on numbers is usually lower than on words: there are no familiar shapes, and every digit has to be found. Compare it with your previous number scores rather than with your speed on words.

Tips

  • Read long numbers in pairs of digits: 1984 is 19, then 84.
  • Move your fingers, not your wrists.
  • If you enter a lot of figures, the numeric keypad test trains the keypad on the right of the keyboard.
